A Weekend to Remember Apollo 11

This weekend you can relive the thrilling launch of the Apollo 11’s Saturn V Rocket and enjoy the Apollo 50th-anniversary festival hosted by National Air and Space Museum and NASA on the National Mall.

There will be a free 17-minute projection show to recreate the launch of the Saturn V Rocket and the first Moon landing, called Apollo 50: “Go for the Moon.” 

The show will unfold on the face of the Washington Monument and supporting screens, including a 40-foot-wide recreation of the famous Kennedy Space Center countdown clock, and will run at 9:30 pm, 10:30 pm, and 11:30 pm on Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20. It can be seen in front of the Smithsonian Castle between 9th and 12th Streets.

Also on the Mall, the festival will take place between 4th and 7th Streets on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. 

At the Apollo 50 Festival’s stage and 20 tented display’s visitors can enjoy: hands-on exhibits and activities from exhibitors like NASA, Boeing, Raytheon, the LEGO Group, and PBS, as well as live performances on stage and speakers including Adam Savage, NASA scientists, Museum experts.
