A Taste of Cuba in Rockville (PHOTOS)
With all of the growing attention on Cuba I thought it would be a good idea to check out a local shop with a little Cuban flare. The Cuban Corner in Rockville will give you a taste of Cuba without having to leave Montgomery County.
I had my first taste of Cuban coffee while I was working on a story in Miami last year. I was a little confused when I was given such a small serving, that I ordered another cup just to get my morning coffee fix. I later realized that Cuban coffee is quite strong and sweet so there was no need for a second cup. I am a huge coffee fan so I’m always excited to try new types of coffee.
I didn’t want to ruin my dinner so I only tried the coffee and tres leches cake. Both were delicious and I got my coffee to go since I had to beat the 6 p.m. rush hour on the beltway. The interior of The Cuban Corner was friendly and quaint. The owner, Joaquin, was happy to talk to me about a little of Cuban history given the recent news of President Obama’s planned trip to the island nation next week. He wasn’t shy about sharing his opinion either!
