Founded in 1991, the State Capella of Russia was the result of a merger of the USSR State Chamber Choir, led by Valeri Polyansky, and the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR Ministry of Culture, headed by Gennady Rozhdestvensky. The choir is noted for its flawless vocal and choral technique, beautiful, continuous-sounding, crystal-clear, and precise intonation, and unfailing attention to poetic words. Under Polyansky’s direction, the choir continues to capture the hearts of audiences around the world with its emotional and passionate performances. The Capella’s first Christmas tour to the US includes masterpieces by Rachmaninoff, Bortnyansky, and Grechaninoff, as well as western classics and famous Christmas carols.
