Gene Counihan, right, who spent more than 50 years in public service including three terms as a Maryland State Delegate, talks about his many experiences on June 16 as he was honored by the Montgomery County Council upon his retirement. Among his positions was as the first chair of the Board of Advisers of the Universities at Shady Grove, which he was instrumental in creating.
