A Challenge to Readers: Help Me Rediscover My Passion
If you’ve read my bio, you know that I have a master’s degree in writing and am a published author. (My publications include a short story in “Enhanced Gravity,” a short story in Gargoyle magazine, and a short story in “District Lines.”)
But the truth is, despite my passion for writing, I don’t write enough. It was easy when I was in graduate school or had a writing group. Then, there were deadlines to meet. Now, there are just what seems like a million other things competing for my attention — my daughter, my dog, my full-time job, my volunteer gig (Gaithersburg Book Festival), my house…
So now, I want to take advantage of being a Furloughed Fed to get back to what I love: my writing.
Sure, this blog is one way. It is writing. But my first love is fiction writing.
So I’m issuing a challenge to my (few) readers… help me find my way back.
Go to the comments section below and post a first line or a quirky character name to get me started, an unusual item you’d like me to incorporate into a story, or anything else that you think will stir my creative juices. I’ll choose one (or more) to inspire a new piece of flash fiction (1,000 words or fewer), and I’ll post the resulting stories to this blog.
In the meantime, well, I’ll be waiting to hear from you.
