Update: Salvadoran American Day Festival (Photos and Video)

Over a thousand residents filled the Wheaton Triangle to celebrate the 4th annual Salvadoran-American Day festival.

Festival goers enjoyed authentic food from local restaurants, music and free healthcare provided by Kaiser Permanente and Mary’s Center.

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett spoke to the crowd.

In 2012, Governor O’Malley issued a state-wide proclamation. It declared Aug. 5 as Salvadoran-American Heritage Day in Maryland.

The Fourth Annual Salvadoran American Day Festival will take place on August 4 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the Wheaton Triangle, corner of Reedie Dr. and Grandview Ave. Salvadoran food, traditional crafts and live music by local and international artists will be featured.

The free festival commemorates Salvadoran American Day in the United States and celebrates Montgomery County’s and the metro region’s Salvadoran community. It is presented by Montgomery County, in partnership with the Salvadoran American Transnational Communities.

Wheaton Triangle is located one block north of the Wheaton metro Station. Free parking is available at the Metro garages on Viers Mill Road and Reedie Drive and Georgia Avenue and Reedie Drive.
