Hurricane Season Starts June 1 (Video)

As the Hurricane season draws near, Pepco wants to remind the community to prepare for the 2013 hurricane season. The National Weather Service  predicts this season will bring an average of 20 hurricanes.

Although June 1 marks the official beginning of the hurricane season, Pepco officials want residents to be prepared for all kinds of summer storms. You may remember last year Montgomery County was hit hard by the derecho.

MyMCMedia’s Tamika Smith talked with Pete Pedersen, who is a Pepco Operations Distribution Analyst, he works with field operations to get customers’ power restored.

Pepco officials say they have taken steps to get prepared as well. The steps include: having 150 permanent line personnel, having more than 450 personnel on standby for emergencies, trimmed about 5,800 miles of trees since 2010 to increase their reliability and upgraded their website including apps to provide the latest outage information.
