Brooms Can Conduct Electricity (Video)

Pete Pedersen is a Distribution Operations Analyst with Pepco. He works with the field operations team to restore customers’ power.

 

If you would have told me that brooms could conduct electricity, I would have said, “I don’t think so.” Thanks to a Pepco training on hurricane preparedness in Rockville on May 29, I will live to see another day.

Pete Pedersen, a Pepco Operations Distribution Analyst, said that even leaves can conduct electricity because there are thousands of bolts of electricity that run through a light pole. Unless you have special gear issued for working with high voltage, you shouldn’t be handling downed power lines, he added.

Pedersen brought out a live line simulator to show possible situations people can find themselves injured by a power line.
