Strathmore Presents Bela Fleck & the Marcus Roberts Trio (Video)
Bela Fleck and the Marcus Roberts Trio performs a night of jazz May 10 at 8 p.m. at the Music Center at Strathmore, 5301 Tuckerman Lane, North Bethesda. Béla Fleck has been nominated in more Grammy categories than anyone in history, and has taken home 14 of the statuettes, wandering gleefully across genres and bringing together eclectic and utterly amazing groups of musicians. This season, Strathmore favorite Fleck brings a brilliant collaboration with one of today’s most lauded jazz ensembles, with Marcus Roberts on piano, Jason Marsalis on drums and Rodney Jordan on bass. Tickets range from $28 – $58 and may be purchased by calling 301.581.5100 or online at Strathmore website.
Don’t miss a free pre-concert lecture, How Do They Do It? The Mind-Meld of Ensemble Improvisation, at 6:30PM in the Shapiro Music Room in the Mansion. Speakers are Brad Linde and Charles Limb. Linde will discuss how collective improvisation works musically, both within the ensemble and within the mind and instruments of individual artists. Dr. Limb’s portion of the talk will discuss functional neuroimaging experiments of musical improvisation, which are explored as a means of understanding how creativity takes place in the brain. Free with concert ticket. Limited seating available.
