Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Gaithersburg

Montgomery County detectives are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a school bus that occurred at 6:26 a.m. on March 21 on Clopper Road.
Police and fire rescue units responded to the area of Clopper Road and Metropolitan Grove Road for the report of a personal injury collision. According to police, the preliminary investigation reveals that a pedestrian was crossing Clopper Road just east of Metropolitan Grove Road. The pedestrian was struck by a Montgomery County school bus that was traveling westbound on Clopper Road, police said.
Police have identified the pedestrian as George Pezdirtz III, age 55, of Clopper Road in Gaithersburg. Pezdirtz succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the collision, according to police.
The driver of the bus, police said, has been identified as Telma Elizabeth Ramirez, age 57, of Poolesville. Police said Ramirez remained on scene of the collision and provided information to investigators. There were no students on board the school bus at the time of the collision, according to police.
The circumstances surrounding this collision remain under investigation. Detectives are asking anyone that witnessed or may have information about this collision to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 240.773.6620. Callers may remain anonymous.

At this time, police said Clopper Road is closed in both directions at Firstfield Road.
Closure is expected to remain through the rush hour, according to a Gaithersburg alert message.
Due to the accident, all southbound traffic is being diverted at Longdraft Road.
