Ride On Route Changes Start Jan. 13 (Video)

Beginning Sunday, January 13, the following changes will be made to Ride On bus routes to add service to new population centers and improve efficiencies.   Daily service will be added to Park Potomac, a new residential and commercial area off Seven Locks and Montrose roads and I-270.  The route 98 bus will expand to serve several areas, including the Cinnamon Woods neighborhood during peak periods, the Germantown Community Center during midday and the Maryland SoccerPlex on weekends.  Service will be provided to a new area at Watkins Mill Road and MD 355 in Germantown and service within Olney will be restructured.

Details about the changes are:

Route 38

The Ride On Bus Route 38 will become two separate routes at the White Flint Station.  The portion of the route retaining the Route 38 designation will continue to originate from Wheaton Station, then serve the Connecticut Estates area, turning off Veirs Mill Road at Newport Mill Road and then exiting at Claridge Road.  From there, the Route 38 bus will follow its regular routing, ending at the White Flint Station on Marinelli Road.

Route 42

Ride On Bus Route 42 is the new portion of the Route 38 bus that will operate from the White Flint Station to Montgomery Mall.  This route will serve a new community, Park Potomac, entering off Montrose Road and Seven Locks Road.

Route 47

The Route 47 will follow its regular routing but add service off Seven Locks Road to also serve Park Potomac.

Route 52

The Route 52 will be revised to serve the community along Queen Elizabeth Drive in Olney.  Service along Headwaters Drive and along Olney Sandy Spring Road (MD 108) between Prince Phillip Drive and Georgia Avenue will be eliminated.

Route 53

The Route 53 will be restructured to provide service to the new Inter County Connector (ICC), Maryland Route 200, Park and Ride Lot on Georgia Avenue.  During rush hours, reverse peak service will be modified.  Reverse peak runs from Shady Grove to Olney in the morning and from Olney to Shady Grove in the afternoon.  For the reverse peak run, stops between Shady Grove and Olney along Bowie Mill, Muncaster Mill and Redland roads will not be made. Instead, reverse peak express service will be provided along the ICC and Georgia Avenue between Olney and Shady Grove.

Route 58

Route 58 will be extended to serve a new area at Watkins Mill Road and MD 355 via Russell and Christopher avenues.

Route 61

The Germantown Community Center will now be served by the Ride On Route 98 bus instead of Route 61.

Route 98

The Route 98 will be extended to operate from the Germantown Transit Center to the Kingsview Park and Ride Lot. During peak periods, the Route 98 will operate via Cinnamon Woods; during midday on weekdays, it will operate via the Germantown Community Center; and on weekends it will operate via the Soccerplex.  Service on Wisteria and Seabreeze Court will be eliminated.

Route Z2 on Saturday

The Route Z2 will be eliminated on Saturdays only.

Also, the following routes will be adjusted because of running time changes and/or modest increases in the number of trips:

Routes 2, 9, 17, 33, 34, 51, 56, 70, 71, 76, 78, and 79.
