Gaithersburg Budget Public Forum
How clean are your streets? Are they well lit? Is there enough green space? Are public playgrounds well-maintained? Does your recycling get picked up? Do you feel well protected? Can you find recreational activities that you enjoy? Who’s taking care of the homeless?
On Monday, Feb. 11 the Gaithersburg Mayor and City Council will host a budget forum at the City Hall Council Chambers starting at 7:30 p.m. In an informal, town hall setting, staff will present the financial state of the city, then elected officials will entertain input from the community on funding priorities for the coming fiscal year, which begins on July 1.
The staff presentation will include a state of the city’s finances, including how the city ended the previous fiscal year, revenue and expenditure projections for FY14, and potential implications of “fiscal cliff” negotiations on city finances.
Advance registration is not needed to speak. Each member of the public wishing to comment need simply wait their turn for a 3-minute opportunity to express their thoughts. Comment can also be provided via e-mail to cityhall@gaithersburgmd.gov.
The meeting will be aired live on GTV, Gaithersburg’s municipal cable channel, viewable on Comcast and RCN channel 13 or FiOS channel 25 within city limits. The meeting can also be viewed live via streaming video at www.gaithersburgmd.gov, or can be viewed online at a later date once the meeting is archived.
The FY14 budget is scheduled for public hearing in late April, with adoption anticipated in early June.
