The Montgomery County Council honored Professor Hamman on December 11.
John Hamman, a Montgomery College mathematics professor who was recently named 2012 “Maryland Professor of the Year” by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, showed on Dec. 11 that great teachers also have a sense of humor while being honored by the Montgomery County Council. Professor Hamman, who chairs the Department of Mathematics at the college’s Germantown campus, brought laughs to all around at the ceremonies in Rockville, including, left to right: Councilmember Valerie Ervin, who chairs the Council’s Education Committee; Sanjay Rai, the vice president and provost of Montgomery College; Kathy Michaelian, an instructional dean at the college; and Margaret Latimer, an assistant dean.
