County Board Vacancies

County Executive Isiah Leggett is committed to representation on all of the County’s boards, committees, and commissions that is reflective of, and responsive to, our County’s residents. Public participation contributes to the work of County government and provides an important service to the community when a variety of issues, concerns, and viewpoints are presented. Currently, there is a valuable opportunity to serve on the following:

• Domestic violence Coordinating Council – deadling for application is October 5, 2012

Applicants of diverse backgrounds, professions, gender, geography, disability and ethnicity are encouraged to apply. Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Members of these boards are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Leggett’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of individuals selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.

Citizens Review Panel for Children

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill six vacancies on the Citizens Review Panel for Children. Three vacancies are for voting public members, and three vacancies are for non-voting technical professional advisor positions. Two incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.

The purpose of the Citizens Review Panel is to implement State law regarding local citizens review boards, and evaluate state and local agency response to child protection needs. Panel members review cases of child abuse and neglect and they serve as an oversight group to both state and county officials, and to the administration in the Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services.

The Citizens Review Panel for Children has 9-14 members. The County Executive appoints up to 12 members. Two members are appointed by State agencies. Members must be volunteers who exercise their own free will in all deliberations of the Panel and do not represent any agency or organization. Non-voting members provide technical and professional advice to the Panel about Child Protective Services. County or State employees, or spouses or domestic partners of County or State employees, may not serve on the Panel.

Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. The Citizens Review Panel must meet at least once every three months or at the call of the Chair.

Domestic Violence Violence Coordinating Council

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy for a student member to serve a one-year term, which may be renewed for one additional year. The student member should be a high school junior or senior when initially appointed, and should attend a public or private school in the County.

The 17-member Domestic Violence Coordinating Council is composed of five public members with a demonstrated interest in domestic violence issues, including at least one individual who is a former victim of domestic violence; one attorney with experience representing victims of domestic violence; one student member; and twelve members who are representatives of County and State government who coordinate efforts relating to domestic violence prevention, intervention, treatment, law enforcement, prosecution, correction and victim advocacy.

Members of the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council advise the County Executive, County Council, and Criminal Justice Coordinating Commission and its members on policies, programs, and legislation to prevent domestic violence. Other duties include: promoting and facilitating a community-wide response to domestic violence, coordinating with the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence and County domestic violence programs or services; cooperating with the Abused Persons Program of the County’s Department of Health and Human Services to review programs and facilities for victims and offenders; obtaining and evaluating findings and recommendations of the County’s Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team; obtaining and evaluating data, reports, and information related to domestic violence; and advocating for policies or legislation at the County, State and Federal levels.

Members serve without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held six times per year the second Thursday of every other month at 5:30 PM at the Family Justice Center building at 600 Jefferson Plaza in Rockville.
