Bethesda Honoring Local Olympians on Aug. 24
The Greater Bethesda Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce, Bethesda Urban Partnership, Bethesda Chevy Chase Regional Services Center, Brookfield Properties, Congressman Chris Van Hollen and County Council President Roger Berliner will honor U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Katie Ledecky as well as U.S. Olympians Scott Parsons and Julie Zetlin on Friday, Aug. 24 at 5:30pm at the Bethesda Metro Center.Ledecky, of Bethesda, MD is 15 years old and a student at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. She is the youngest member of the 2012 Olympic team and won the gold medal in the 800m freestyle swim race. Parsons, of Bethesda, MD has participated in the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympics and is a slalom kayaker. Zetlin, of Bethesda, MD is a rhythmic gymnast and 2012 is her first time on the U.S. Olympic team.
“Bethesda is honored to be the hometown of these talented athletes, and we are thrilled to celebrate their accomplishments with them,” said Patrick O’Neill, past chair of the Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce, “Bethesda has many great amenities to offer our residents, visitors and local businesses and we can now add world-class athletes to the many wonderful attributes of the Bethesda area.”
The celebration will be followed by the Metro Center Dance Concert featuring Cityscape from 6-8pm.
The Bethesda Urban Partnership, Inc. (BUP) is the creator and sponsor of such popular events as the Taste of Bethesda, Imagination Bethesda and the Bethesda Literary Festival. Additionally, the Bethesda Urban Partnership manages the Bethesda Arts and Entertainment District and Bethesda Transportation Solutions. The beautification of downtown Bethesda’s parks, streets and sidewalks is also maintained by BUP.
