Montgomery Parks Hosts “Drag Queen Story Hour” As Part of Hispanic Heritage Month
Montgomery Parks is hosting Drag Queen Lady J. Monroe for a “Drag Queen Story Hour” on Saturday, Sept. 25 as part of their celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The event, which is open to all ages and free of charge, will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Brookside Gardens and feature stories for children in both English and Spanish.
According to Montgomery Parks, “Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH) is just what it sounds like—drag queens reading stories to children in libraries, schools, and bookstores. DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models.”
Drag Queen Story Hour, founded in San Francisco in 2015, has chapters in 29 states and Puerto Rico, including one in Montgomery County. Their mission is to “celebrate reading through the glamorous art of drag,” and, “create diverse, accessible, and cultural inclusive family programming where kids can express their authentic selves and become bright lights of change in their communities,” according to their website.
Other Drag Queen Story Hours will be hosted at Brookside Gardens on October 23, November 20, December 18, January 15, and February 19.
Drag Queen Story Hour with Lady J. Monroe will have stories in both English and Spanish for Hispanic Heritage Month this Saturday, 10:30 am, at Brookside Gardens.
