All Lanes Open Following Rockville Pike Water Main Break

Repairs are complete and all lanes are open after a 64-year-old water main broke Monday on Rockville Pike by Strathmore Avenue in front of Georgetown Prep High School.

Southbound Rockville Pike was closed to thru traffic at Edson Lane after the pipe broke close to 5 p.m., Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer said. Southbound Rockville Pike near Strathmore Avenue was impassable, Piringer said.

WSSC Water said a “special material” was needed to attach a new pipe to the 64-year-old main one. As of around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, WSSC said the new pipe was in place; the far right southbound Pike lane remained closed. WSSC said about an hour later that repairs were finished and water was being restored.

Around noon Tuesday, WSSC said all lanes are open.
