Takoma Park Shooter Held Without Bond; Preliminary Hearing Set

David Hall Dixon, the off duty Pentagon police officer who was charged with two counts of second-degree murder and assault in two separate incidents, was ordered held without bond Monday afternoon.

His preliminary hearing is set for 10:30 a.m. on May 7.

Dixon was charged by Takoma Park Police with two counts of second degree murder, each of which carry a possible prison sentence of 40 years in jail, in connection with an April 7 early morning shooting at the Takoma Park Overlook Condominiums on New Hampshire Avenue, where he lives. He also is charged with use of a firearm during a felony and reckless endangerment.

According to police, Dixon was in the condominium apartments when he noticed someone breaking into a car. The suspect got into a car and as it drove away, Dixon stood behind it and fire shots into the car, killing Dominique Williams, 32, of Hyattsville, and James Lionel Johnson, 38, of District Heights.

In a separate incident, Dixon is charged with assaulting a woman in the lobby of those condominiums. During the murder investigation, Takoma Park police saw a video of last year’s incident, in which Dixon is seen  assaulting a female with a long gun. They charged him with first degree assault, second degree assault and use of a firearm in a felony or violent crime.

In both incidents, police said that Dixon acted as a civilian and not in his role as a police officer.

Montgomery County Council President Tom Hucker tweeted, “Glad to learn that the rogue Takoma Park shooter has been held without bond after this afternoon’s bond hearing. He has no business on the street.”
