MCPS Will Administer Assessment Tests

The Maryland State Department of Education is requiring all local school districts to administer a fall diagnostic assessment in math and literacy to all students.

The goal is to enable educators to see what students learned during the last school year during virtual teaching and to account for learning losses. It also is designed to determine current performance levels for all students. Teachers are expected to use the results to monitor student progress.

Montgomery County Public Schools will administer the virtual MAPS (Measure of Academic Progress) this month and early October. Individual schools will let parents know when their kindergarteners through high school seniors will take the assessment test.

MCPS has used MAP assessment in the past for elementary and middle school students. MCPS also is required by the state DOE to conduct universal screening for kindergarten and first grade students to check for reading difficulties.
