Montgomery COVID-19 Cases Increase by 208, State Cases Pass 56,000

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics

Friday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 12,434 cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 208 cases from the 12,226 reported Wednesday.

Since the first case in March, 606 county residents have died from COVID-19. This is an increase of ten deaths since Thursday, according to the health department. The number of probable deaths is 39.

Montgomery County has seen more deaths due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 563 residents to the pandemic.

The positivity rate of 11.58%, reported Friday by the state health department, is the second-highest in the state, behind Prince George’s at 13.46%.  The state calculates the positivity rate using the average rate for seven days. Montgomery County on Thursday reported a positivity rate of 11% based on a rolling three-day average.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics

As of Friday morning, there were 56,770 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 912 cases in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 2,580 Marylanders, 34 in the last 24 hours.

May 9 the state reported 1,665 Marylanders were hospitalized with COVID-19. Since that time the number of patients hospitalized has been on the decline.

Currently,  1,076 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, which is 20 fewer than Thursday. Of those patients, 455 are in intensive care, which is a decrease of one since Thursday.

In Maryland, 9,346 people have been hospitalized since the outbreak of COVID-19.

The state’s positivity rate continues to drop, currently, it is 8.44%.

A total of 16,208 cases and 1,077 deaths involve the state’s African American community. This is 16 additional deaths since Thursday.
