Ocean City will Reopen Beach, Boardwalk This Weekend
In a surprising move that is sure to elate some and anger others, Ocean City, Md will open its beach, boardwalk and inlet parking lot this Saturday. Ocean City council secretary Mary Knight confirmed the news to MyMCMedia Monday night.
”I think it’s good news,” Knight said.
Ocean City mayor Rick Meehan made the announcement immediately following a meeting of the city’s council Monday evening. Knight said that the council was “100 percent” behind the decision. She called the move, “baby steps that we’re taking” toward an eventual full reopening.
The decision seems to fly in the face of Maryland governor Larry Hogan’s stay-at-home order which he issued – and is still in effect – on March 30. The number of coronavirus cases and deaths continue to rise in Maryland.
Knight said that social distancing will be in effect and enforced but that masks are not required.
Hotels in Ocean City remain closed to the general public. They are open for essential workers only.
”It’s a light at the end of the tunnel. We all need something like this,” Knight said.
What about boats????
