Nigerian-American Author to be Featured at County Libraries Event

Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) will feature Nigerian-American author Tope Folarin as part of their “Contemporary Conversations” series. The series serves as a community forum for discussions about current and cultural issues with authors and journalists. Folarin will discuss his book, “A Particular Kind of Black Man,” which highlights issues of identity and belonging.

The event is at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Silver Spring Library at 900 Wayne Ave. There will be a reception after the main program. 

In 2013, Folarin was the first writer outside of Africa to win the Caine Prize for African Writing. In 2014, he was named to the Africa39 project’s list of most promising African writers under 40. Folarin attended Morehouse College and the University of Oxford. 

The MCPL event is free but registration is required. Residents can register on the MCPL website or by calling the Silver Spring Library at 240-773-9420.
