The Montgomery County Council will be hosting two youth town halls in the upcoming weeks. The County wants to learn more about the issues that are impacting young people in the area.

The two town halls will be taking place on Oct. 30 at Clarksburg High School and Nov. 13 at Wheaton High School. Each will take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Council President Nancy Navarro is very happy to be having this event again and says it has become a good learning experience for Council members.

“Every time we have the opportunity to hear from the young residents of Montgomery County it gives me a great sense of pride,” said Council President Nancy Navarro. “Last year we had engaging discussion on various topics relating to school safety, bullying, mental health resources, and more. Since then our young residents have continued to participate in our racial equity and social justice discussions that we’ve had since March. I am excited for the future of this County because I have great confidence that our up and coming leaders will work hard to continue to improve our County and the lives of all residents.”

Students can earn student service learning (SSL) hours from attending the town hall meeting.

Both public and private school students in Montgomery County are encouraged to come.

The meetings will be broadcast live on Channel 996 on Comcast, 1056 on RCN and 30 on Verizon. The meeting will be streamed on Facebook Live and Youtube and students can participate on social media using #MoCoYouth.

Clarksburg High School is located at 22500 Wims Rd. in Clarksburg and Wheaton High School is 12401 Dalewood Dr. in Silver Spring.

Come at 6 p.m. for pre-meeting pizza reception for students and council members in the school’s cafeteria.
