Gaithersburg City Officials to Vote on Wawa in October

Gaithersburg city officials are scheduled to take a final vote Oct. 7 to determine whether Wawa—a convenience store, food market and fuel station—will come to the city.

The City of Gaithersburg had a public hearing on Monday discussing the plans to build the Wawa across from Gaithersburg High School, off of South Frederick Avenue  (MD Route 355). At the hearing, several residents raised objections about the plans, citing the proximity to a school, environmental concerns, and worries it would drive competing gas stations out of business.

During an interview with MyMCMedia on Wednesday, Gaithersburg Mayor Jud Ashman addressed the possibility of a Wawa opening in 2020.

Ashman said that the record on this matter is staying open through Sept. 19. So until then, community members can continue sharing their feedback on the plan by emailing comments to Gaithersburg city officials.
