A Russian boxer died Tuesday from wounds sustained during a fight at the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill Friday night.

28 year-old Maxim Dadashev, a junior welterweight, was facing Subriel Matias in a world title elimination fight to earn the right to challenge the current International Boxing Federation champion Josh Taylor. The fight, televised on ESPN+, was called after the 11th round in favor of Matias.

Dadashev collapsed after leaving the ring. According to ESPN writer Dan Rafael, Dadashev was treated for bleeding on the brain at UM Prince George’s Hospital Center in Cheverly and was placed in a medically-induced coma before ultimately succumbing to his injuries Tuesday morning.
