Spirit Lose Game, Win Over Fans

The final score at the Maryland SoccerPlex Saturday night indicated that the Washington Spirit had lost to the Houston Dash 2-1 in a game delayed by heat and lightning. But a sellout crowd of 5500 – many of whom stayed after the game for autographs and pictures with US National Team players Rose Lavelle and Mallory Pugh – suggested that more important things had been accomplished than the result.

The Spirit, as well as every other team in the NWSL, are hoping to capitalize on the attention received and popularity of the National team’s World Cup victory. They hope it will translate into more fan support, greater media attention and a successful future.

MCM was there in Boyds to capture the festivities.
