Pepco Requests Customers to Conserve Energy Friday

Image of Pepco truck door with Pepco logoPepco is asking its customers to conserve energy Friday as an increased demand for electricity throughout the Mid-Atlantic region is anticipated. The power supply in the region is expected to be sufficient to meet anticipated high demand.

Pepco Maryland customers are eligible to participate in the Peak Energy Savings Credit program. It rewards customers by offering bill credits when customers reduce energy use at home during Peak Savings Days. No enrollment is needed to participate. Friday’s Peak Savings Day conservation period is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Customers are alerted by phone call the day before the Peak Savings Day with the hours to reduce energy use. After a Peak Savings Day, customers may find their savings in the account online and on their next bill.

Customers who reduce energy use below their specified baseline during the specific hours of the Peak Savings Day can receive a credit of $1.25 off their bill for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of reduced usage.

Pepco will cycle air conditioner compressors off and on for short intervals during the Peak Savings Day hours for those customers participating in the Energy Wise Rewards program. Because the air conditioner fans will continue to run, most customers will not notice a temperature change in their home and those who do should experience only a 1-to 3-degree change. It may take up to a half-hour after the event ends at 5 p.m. for air conditioners to resume normal operations.

Peak Energy Savings Credit and Energy Wise Rewards are voluntary programs. Customers can learn more about Peak Energy Savings Credit by calling 1.855.730-PEAK or visit the Pepco website. To learn more about Energy Wise Rewards call 1.866.353.5798 or visit Pepco rewards website.
