Mark Ein Keeps Citi Open Tennis Tournament In DC

Venture capitalist and Washington Kastles owner, Mark Ein announced the conclusion of a six-month-long bidding process with the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation (WTEF) to secure management rights of the long-running pro tennis tournament.

Mayor Muriel Bowser said, “It wouldn’t be summer in the sports capital without the Citi Open.” She added, “We are grateful for Mark Ein’s leadership and look forward to many more years of hosting the Citi Open in Washington.”

Ein made the announcement at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center where he was accompanied by Mayor Bowser, ATP Tour Players Denis Kudla (left) and Frances Tiafoe (right), Ward 4 City Councilmember Brandon Todd and WTEF President Rebecca Crouch.

WTEF is a non-profit that provides free tennis and educational programs for children in underserved communities. The Citi Open tournament is one of the organization’s biggest annual fundraisers which has raised millions for youth programs.

A Chevy Chase resident and B-CC High School graduate, Ein has grown up close to the site of the tournament and even served as a ball kid, “I grew up with this tournament and I know first-hand the profound impact it can have on individuals like myself and on our community more broadly, so I am thrilled that we were able to come to an agreement to keep this very special event here in Washington.”
