School Superintendent Highlights New Initiatives

Big things are in store for Montgomery County Public Schools.

Montgomery County School Superintendent Jack Smith held his monthly media conference on Thursday morning where he highlighted initiatives and programs for the district’s 163,000 students. Smith says some of his main initiatives include addressing chronic absenteeism, and the 2020 fiscal year budget, as well as expansive learning.

Montgomery County Public Schools Department of Elementary Curriculum and District Wide Programs Director, Niki Hazel says the Board of Education recently approved the purchase of new curriculum materials for elementary and secondary in when it comes to math, and literacy. Hazel says some of the new curriculum will be offered starting next year.

Smith also mentioned a partnership with Montgomery College, and ways to expand duel enrollment opportunities for students.
