BlackRock Center for the Arts Offers Discount Tickets for Furloughed Employees

BlackRock Center for the Arts is offering furloughed federal employees discounted tickets to both the Jan. 11 Johnny Rawls concert and the Jan. 12 Potomac Fever and the Rock Creek Singers concert. Any guest that presents a federal employee or federal contractor ID may purchase a ticket for $5.

BlackRock Center for the Arts is located at 12901 Town Commons Drive in Germantown.

Friday, Jan. 11 the blues legend Johnny Rawls is in concert at 8 p.m in BlackRock’s Studio Theater. Rawls is a veteran of the blues circuit for over 50 years. Learn more and purchase tickets, here.

On Saturday, Jan. 12, two ensembles of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC take the Main Stage.  Choral ensembles Potomac Fever and the Rock Creek Singers perform at 8 p.m. Learn more and purchase tickets, here.

In addition, BlackRock is presenting a number of free events this weekend, for anyone feeling the pinch in their pocketbook. Prior to the Gay Men’s Chorus performance, at 6 p.m. Saturday, there will be a free LGBTQ meet and greet with LGBTQ artists/artisans, local civic organizations, light hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, hosted by legendary DC drag queen Tula, who will headline Tula’s Cabaret at BlackRock later in April.

BlackRock opens its first gallery exhibit of 2019, a dual science-inspired exhibition by regional artists Michal Gavish and Stephanie Garon.

Gavish’s Nano portraiture exhibit showcases works inspired by biological structures in the human body, such as DNA sequences and cellular structure.

Garon’s Nature/Nurture exhibit features sculpture modeled after things found in nature, using man-made materials, as a metaphor for mankind’s frailty in the face of nature.

BlackRock’s galleries are always free to visitors, and Saturday’s opening also features a free “Meet the Artists” reception from 2 to 4 p.m.
