Montgomery County Fire Department Employee Charged with Sexual Assault Offenses

A 33 year-old Gaithersburg man has been charged with three counts of fourth-degree sexual offenses, and one count of second-degree assault. According to a police statement, the charges come after an incident from July 3.

Mario Arturo Obando-Rodriguez, who worked as a Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Services employee since 2013, was providing treatment to a woman in a MCFRS ambulance, when he allegedly committed the sexual assault offenses, police said. At the time, he was stationed at Fire Station 8 in Gaithersburg.

Montgomery County detectives determined that Obando-Rodriguez “touched the victim inappropriately under the pretense of providing medical treatment.” After the assault, he gave the victim his phone number, police said.

Obando-Rodriguez was arrested on Nov. 30, but was released after posting a $5,000 bond.

As police continue investigating this incident, they ask people with information to contact the 1st District Investigative Section at 240-773-6084.
