Five Things to Know for Sept. 27 in Montgomery County

We are in for a day of rain, again. Here are five things you need to know today, Thursday, Sept. 27  in Montgomery County:

1. Grand Opening: The Chick-fil-A at Rockville opens today. The new fast food restaurant specializing in chicken sandwiches is located at 1401 Research Boulevard.

2. Planning Meeting: The Planning Board meets today and will work on the MARC Rail Communities Sector Plan for Germantown, among numerous other items. The meeting agenda may be found, here.

3. Council Committees Meet: Montgomery County Council committees have a full day of briefings. The Education Committee, at 9:30 a.m., considers funding the School Bus Safety Camera Program with an additional $4.7 million. Also at 9:30 a.m., the Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy and Environment Committee will receive a briefing on the Purple Line. At 2 p.m. the Government Operations Committee considers amendments to the recordation tax rates. The meetings all take place at the County Office Building. Click here for agendas and locations.

4. Virtual Community Conversation: Montgomery County Public Schools and the Department of Health and Human Services are hosting a virtual community engagement event at 7 p.m. to provide information to the community to about condom availability and sexual health education in our high schools.

5. Senior Wellness Festival: Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg hosts a wellness event as part of Active Aging Week. The festival, which is located in Hefner Community Center, includes wellness-inspired games, ice cream and popcorn, and clowning around by the Asbury Clowns.
