Germantown Pain Management Doctor Gets 8 Years
A Germantown physician received an eight-year prison sentence Tuesday for 26 counts arising from nearly $1.4 million in kickbacks and fraudulent billing as well as a plan to defraud the United States of more than $2.1 million in taxes, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Baltimore.
Atif Babar Malik, 48, will also have three years of supervised release after his sentenced, as well as be forced to pay a $75,000 fine, restitution of $175,000 and forfeit $241,976, according to the statement.
Chief U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar sentenced Malik after a 13-day trial.
Malik is trained in pain management, the statement said.
