Here are five things you need to know for Friday, Sept. 7, in Montgomery County:

1. Shocking End to Murder Trial: Tyler Tessier, accused of killing his girlfriend Laura Wallen, apparently committed suicide early Thursday morning.

 

2. Trader Joe’s Opens:  The Trader Joe’s located in the Travilah Square Shopping Center on Darnestown Road is set to celebrate its grand opening at 8 a.m. today with live music, food tastings and giveaways, as reported by Bethesda Beat.

3. Veterans Medical Center Ribbon Cutting: The first Department of Veterans Affairs community clinic in Montgomery County will host the official ribbon cutting ceremony today at 10:30 a.m. The clinic is located at 15810 Gaither Road in Gaithersburg and will serve the more than 42,000 Veterans living in the County.

4. Art Walk in the Park: The Glen Echo Park Partnership hosts open studios and artist demonstrations in the Park’s many visual arts studios and galleries today from 6 to 8 p.m.

5. Sensory-Based Thinking: The Rockville Science Center presents a lecture by Dr. Temple Grandin who will share her thoughts and research on the humane management of livestock and her concept of sensory-based thinking. The Music Center at Strathmore at 7:30 p.m.
