Police Meet With Howard County Prosecutors to Discuss White Killing

Police cars block off Three Oaks Drive on June 11, shortly after Robert White was shot and killed.

Montgomery Police met with the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office on Monday, and chose not to release the body-camera footage from the officer who shot and killed Robert Lawrence White on June 11, according to a police statement.

White, who was unarmed, was killed by Officer Anand Badgujar after the two had a confrontation on Three Oaks Drive in Silver Spring.

White may have been suffering from a mental illness. He became combative with the officer.

According to police protocol, the Montgomery investigation was being reviewed by the Howard County prosecutors who will decide whether to charge Badgujar. The prosecutors, according to the statement, requested the body-camera footage to be withheld because it “could potentially have an adverse impact upon the … investigation and any possible judicial proceedings.”

The statement said the release will be reconsidered as the investigation continues.

The statement also said White’s autopsy is not complete.

Badgujar has been a member of Montgomery County police for two years.
