Five Things to Know for April 17 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know for Tuesday, April 17, in Montgomery County:

1. Equity Policy: Montgomery County Council Vice President Nancy Navarro is expected to introduce a resolution during today’s council session that would develop an equity policy framework requiring the county to question how budget and policy decisions impact equity.

2. Save a Life Montgomery: Montgomery College officials will host a community forum on opioid and substance abuse in the county at the Rockville Campus. Participants will find out more information on how to keep their loved-ones and the community safe.

3. Stand Upcounty Poolesville: Stand UpCounty – Poolesville will host a candidate forum at the Watershed Cafe. Candidates for District 1, At-Large County Council, County Executive, and Board of Education candidates are expected to be in attendance.  Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Complimentary on-site childcare will be provided.

4. Parks Speaker Series: Montgomery Parks continues its monthly speaker series today with Beth Shogren, executive director of Green Minneapolis, and Stacie West, director of parks projects at the NoMa Parks Foundation. The session titled, Parks, Placemaking, and Economic Development: Using Public-Private Partnerships to Create Signature Park Experiences, will examine the critical role of memorable, activated parks in placemaking and economic development.

5. Film and Discussion Series: IMPACT Silver Spring will host a film and discussion series. This month’s screening is The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution. RSVP by clicking here.
