WalletHub Ranks Maryland Second Most Educated State
Maryland is ranked the second most educated state according to finance website WalletHub. The state of Massachusetts ranked number one.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the higher the level of education one completes, the higher their income potential and the lower their chances of unemployment become.
WalletHub compared the 50 states across two categories and 15 metrics. The two categories include “Educational Attainment” and “Quality of Education.” Fifteen metrics in all were examined to determine a rank for each category and an overall score for each state.
A score for “Educational Attainment” was based on four key metrics. The score for “Quality of Education” was based on 11 key metrics including quality of pubic school systems, quality of universities, number of students enrolled in top universities, public high school graduation rate, public college graduation rate, National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) math and reading test scores, and racial and gender gaps in educational attainment.
Maryland ranked second for “Quality of Education” and third for “Educational Attainment.”
Data used to create this ranking were collected from the U.S. Census Bureau, National Center for Education Statistics, The Chronicle of Higher Education, U.S. News & World Report, Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education, U.S. Department of Education, The College Board and WalletHub research.
