Campus Kitchen in Rockville Fights Hunger in the Community
Students enrolled at University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s (UMES) hospitality and tourism management program are helping to fight in hunger in Montgomery County.
Each month under faculty instruction, students prepare a home cooked meal for families in need through the Campus Kitchens Projects (CKP).
CKP is a nonprofit based in Washington D.C. that partners with high schools and college campuses across the country to share on-campus kitchen space to prepare and deliver meals to the community.
The program, located at the Universities at Shady Grove, provides more than 300 meals to families at The Dwelling Place in Gaithersburg and Nourish Now.
Funding for the program comes from UMES’ fundraiser known as “Dining with the Chefs.” The bi-annual event allows students to collaborate with prominent chefs in the area to design a four-course meal for guests attending the gourmet dining event.
Proceeds from Dining with the Chefs benefit The Campus Kitchens Project.
