Silver Spring Warming Shelter Sees Increase During Bitter Cold (VIDEO)
When temperatures drop below 32 degrees between Nov. 1 and March 31, individuals experiencing homelessness in Silver Spring are able to escape the frigid temperatures without the fear of being turned away at Progress Place.
Located at 8106 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Progress Place is a Montgomery County owned-facility that houses two programs: Shepherd’s Table and Interfaith Works. Both programs offer services to the homeless by providing individuals with a meal, case management services, and a warming center in the event temperatures drop below freezing.
The start of the new year has been a cold one for the region and staff from Interfaith Works said they have seen an increase in the amount of people needing shelter from the cold.
