Jealous Selects Turnbull as Running Mate
Ben Jealous, who seeks to be Maryland’s first African-American governor, tapped Susan Turnbull of Bethesda to be his running mate in the 2018 Democratic primary.
Turnbull has played roles in behind-the-scenes politics at both the state and national levels. Her 40-year career has included stints with nonprofits, businesses and on Capitol Hill.
“I’m honored to have this opportunity to continue my decades of service fighting for women, working families and the progressive values we need now more than ever to move Maryland forward,” Turnbull said in a statement provided by the Jealous campaign.
Jealous is among a crowded field of Democrats vying for the party’s nomination to take on Republican Gov. Larry Hogan next year. The field includes Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker, consultant Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, state Sen. Richard Madaleno of Kensington, former schoolteacher and author Alec Ross, Baltimore lawyer Jim Shea and Krishanti Vignarajah of Gaithersburg.
Frequent candidate Ralph Jaffe also has filed for the race.
