Delegate Proposes Beer, Wine Sales in Grocery Stores
In a YouTube statement, Del. Eric Luedtke said he would introduce legislation that would allow grocery stores to sell beer and wine in a “store within a store” model, similar to how grocery stores host coffee shops and banks.
In the statement, Luedtke said the county has debated how alcohol is regulated in Montgomery County.
“Lost in that debate has been the needs of consumers,” he said. “I think consumers have gotten short shrift.”
And he would allow county liquor to sell cold beer and wine, which are currently forbidden.
“I’m hoping that between those options we’ll be able to give consumers more options in how they buy their beer, wine and liquor,” said Luedtke, a Democrat who represents District 14 in Annapolis.
He plans to introduce the legislation in the 2018 General Assembly, which begins Jan. 10.
