Out of the Mouths of Babes: Takoma Park Seeking Applicants for Youth Council
Takoma Park’s City Council is seeking applicants for its newly-established “Youth Council.”
The goal of the council is provide an opportunity for youth in the community to actively participate in local government, according to a news release.
Takoma Park city leaders will pick nine members in grades 7 through 12 with at least one member representing each ward in Takoma Park.
Youth representatives will be responsible for planning and implementing activities for youth; working with the mayor, city council and other leaders to provide leadership opportunities for youth in the city; and inform the government of the needs and wishes of their constituents.
To qualify, youth must be city residents and live in the ward they wish to represent; attend at least 75-percent of the youth council meetings; maintain a 2.5 grade point average; and set an example for youth in the community.
