Police Release Surveillance Footage from Silver Spring Ice Cream Shop Robbery

Montgomery County police have released the surveillance video from an armed robbery at a Silver Spring ice cream shop in hopes the public can help identify the culprit.

The robbery occurred about 9:50 p.m. July 31 at Moorenko’s Ice Cream, at 8030 Georgia Ave., according to a police statement.

Police said a man entered the shop, displayed a handgun, and confronted a clerk who was working behind the counter. The man demanded cash from the register, police said.

The clerk complied and the man placed the money into his pants pocket and fled from the store, police said.

Anyone with information regarding the suspect or this armed robbery is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100. Two men are sought in connection with a commercial strong-arm robbery that occurred at the Express Pharmacy at 16220 Frederick Road about 12:53 p.m. on Aug. 1. The men stole medications.

Multiple thefts from vehicles occurred between July 29 and July 31. Affected streets included Nutwood, Quincewood and Mistic View courts; White Cliff Terrace; and Needwood Road. Two men, ages 18 to 24, are sought in connection with a theft that occurred at the CVS Pharmacy at 3715 University Blvd. West in the early morning hours of July 19. The men stole medications.

A commercial burglary occurred at the Extra Clean Inc. at 11777 Parklawn Drive between about 4:30 p.m. July 19 and about 8 a.m. July 20. Forced entry; property was taken.

Multiple thefts from vehicles occurred between about 4:15 p.m. July 17 and July 31. A man is sought in connection with a carjacking that occurred in the 2900 block of Hewitt Avenue about 11:10 p.m. July 21. The man assaulted the adult male victim and took his vehicle.

Two Silver Spring teenagers, ages 16 and 17, were arrested in connection with a purse-snatching that occurred in the 11100 block of Veirs Mill Road about 4:15 p.m. July 29. The thieves took the adult female victim’s purse.

Germantown:

Multiple thefts from vehicles occurred between July 17 and July 25. Two thefts occurred in the 11700 block of Trophy Court and a third occurred in the 11400 block of Neelsville Church Road. Other affected streets included Poppyseed Lane; Whitechurch Circle; Applegrath and Apple Orchard ways; Pumpkin Seed, Red Pepper, Knolltop View, Maryland Manor and Observation courts; Waters Landing, Glacier Lily and Peppervine drives; Heather Point and Coral Grove places; Longford Glen, Greenridge and Flag Harbor drives; and Mateny Road and Castle Oak roads. No force, one vehicle was reported to have been left unlocked, unknown means of entry into the other vehicles; cash and property were taken. A 19-year-old and a 16-year-old, both from Germantown were arrested for the Neelsville Church Road theft.

A residential burglary and theft from vehicle occurred at the same home in the 7800 block of Brink Road between about 12:30 a.m. and about 7 a.m. July 27. No signs of forced entry; a door leading into the home and the vehicle were both reported to have been left unlocked; property was taken.
