Five Things to Know for June 29 in Montgomery County

Here are five things to know today, June 29, in Montgomery County:

1. Tough Course: Professional golfer Rickie Fowler is having a great season, but the ninth-ranked golfer in the world says TPC Potomac is going to be a challenge. The $7.1 million tournament, with 120 golfers, starts today.

2. A Metro Thank You: With SafeTrack over, nearly 700 Metro administrative employees will be at Metrorail stations thanking customers this afternoon for their support and continued ridership. The employees will hand out thank you notes that include a small token of appreciation offered by a Metro partner.

3. Here’s the Plan: The Montgomery County Planning Board meets, starting at 9 a.m. The board is expected to tour the Grosvernor-Strathmore area, in advance of a public hearing that starts at 6 p.m. Here’s the full agenda.

4. Trash Talk: The Montgomery County Council’s Transportation and the Environment Committee will get a briefing from Lisa Feldt, the county’s director of the Department of Environmental Protection about trash collection issues across the downcounty. Here’s the packet that goes with the meeting.

5. Strictly Business: County Executive Isiah Leggett, Council President Roger Berliner and others will kick off the county’s new business portal. The portal will be a gateway to county services and information related to doing business. The portal opens at 11 a.m. at the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, Suite 1800, 51 Monroe Street, Rockville.
