Rickie Fowler Says New Quicken Loans National Golf Course is “Tough” (VIDEO)
Professional golfer Rickie Fowler is having a great season. He’s ranked number nine in the world and this week he plays at the Quicken Loans National in Montgomery County.
The $7.1 million tournament is being played for the first time at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm.
“I’m looking forward to the new golf course here,” Fowler said. “I’ve never been here. It’s tough. Got to drive it in the fairway for sure, so looking forward to the challenge.”
The 72-hole tournament begins Thursday and concludes Sunday. There are 120 golfers vying for a $1,278,000 winner’s prize.
“I’ve been playing well, consistent, having the win and being in contention in the first two majors of the year. Just looking forward to kind of continue that, to play well here and go over and play well at the Scottish and get myself acclimated, get ready for the British Open,” he said. “This is the busiest part of our season and the time of year that you want to play your best.”
