Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Germantown
UPDATED Montgomery County police officers are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in Germantown Tuesday morning.
It happened at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and Middlebrook Road at around 10:44 a.m., police said.
According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2003 Toyota Sequoia was traveling west on Middlebrook Road when, for reasons still under investigation, it left the roadway at the intersection of Great Seneca Highway and struck a pedestrian who was standing on the median.
Police said the 64-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have identified him as Richard Lee Cooper.
After striking the pedestrian, police said, the Sequoia struck a 1998 Ford Expedition that was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Great Seneca Highway onto westbound Middlebrook Road.
Police said the drivers of both vehicles and a passenger in the Ford were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The intersection was closed for hours while the investigation was underway at the scene. It reopened shortly before the afternoon rush hour.
