UPDATED: Firefighters Investigate School Bus Fire at MCPS Depot
UPDATE 5.22.17 Montgomery County fire and rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said there is nothing suspicious about the school bus fire at the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) bus depot at Crabbs Branch Way over the weekend.
Piringer said investigators believe the fire was electrical in nature and it may have originated in the dashboard.
He said the investigation continues to determine the exact cause of the fire.
ORIGINAL POST Montgomery County firefighters are trying to determine what sparked a fire on a school bus parked at the Montgomery County Public Schools depot at 16600 Crabbs Branch Way overnight.
It happened around midnight, according to Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Pete Piringer.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, he said the bus was fully engulfed in flames.
Piringer said two nearby buses were also damaged by the fire.
Damages are estimated in excess of $100,000, he said. The exact cause of the blaze remains under investigation but Piringer said it is expected to be accidental.
There were no injuries.
