Rickie Fowler, Billy Hurley III, to Compete at Quicken Loans National at TPC Potomac This Summer (VIDEO)

The Quicken Loans National golf tournament returns to Montgomery County this summer but it will be played at a different course than last year. For the first time in the tournament’s eleven-year history, golfers will tee off at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm. MyMCMedia’s Sonya Burke has more.

Last year’s winner, Billy Hurley, III, won the championship trophy at the Congressional Country Club. He’ll be back to defend his title at the new setting in the Avenel community.

“I think it is going to be a hard test,” said Hurley. “It’s a good golf course. It’s a tough, tough golf course.”

Fan favorite Rickie Fowler, who is ranked number nine in the world, is coming back to play in the tournament.

“Obviously happy to have Rickie back with us, and I’m happy to share that several past Quicken Loans National champions will also be with us this year, including KJ Choi, Nick Watney, Troy Merritt, and former FedExCup champ Bill Haas,” said Mike Antolini, the tournament director of the Quicken Loans National.

Organizers are expecting a big turnout for this year event, and they believe spectators will like what they see.

“There are natural hillsides that you can watch the action on,” said Antolini. “It’s a very concentrated area.”

At a May 15th news conference, Quicken Loans officials announced they are bringing Rocket Mortgage Madness to this year’s tournament.

In addition, tournament organizers said all active duty and retired military members will receive a camouflage lanyard to hold their ticket. They lanyard will give the veterans discounts on merchandise, access to shortened concession lines and more. Since 2007, the tournament has provided more than 30,000 complimentary tickets annually to members of the military.

Also, children under the age of 12 will receive complimentary tickets with a ticketed adult at this year’s tournament.
