What to Expect During Kensington’s Day of the Book Festival on April 23 (VIDEO)

What started out as a side walk display with only 11 authors in 2005 has turned into a celebration of the arts, literature and music for the community.

More than 100 authors are expected to join the community and other artists for Kensington’s 12th Annual Day of the Book Festival on April 23.

“It gives local authors venue and an opportunity to show their books, promote their books and talk to people about their books,” Elisenda Sola-Sole, festival director said.

Residents can expect cooking demonstrations, open mic sessions, food trucks as well as question and answer session with local authors.

“This is to celebrate the importance of books in our lives,” Sola-Sole said. “Books are very much, a big part of our lives.”

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared April 23rd as International Day of the Book in 1995 to promote reading and literature. According to Sola-Sole, Day of the Book draws its inspiration from a Catalan tradition titled “The Festival of the Rose.”
