Here are five things to know today, March 8, in Montgomery County:

1. Police Chief Tom Manger and Montgomery College President DeRionne P. Pollard will discuss civility and compassion. The dialogue begins at 7 p.m. at the Theatre Arts Arena at Montgomery College’s Rockville campus.

2. Montgomery County Councilmember Nancy Navarro, school board President Michael Durso, School Superintendent Jack Smith offer details at 11:15 a.m. of the successful effect of the Building Educated Leaders for Life, or BELL, summer learning program. The event will take place at the Carver Educational Services Center, 850 Hungerford Drive, Rockville.

3. The Montgomery County Council and elected officials from Rockville and Gaithersburg meet at 7 p.m. to discuss key issues of the bus rapid transit system, proposed for sections of the county. The meeting will be at Casey Community Center at 810 South Frederick Ave. in Gaithersburg.

4. Crime dropped 8.9 percent in Gaithersburg, according to the city police’s annual report.

5. State Sen. Richard Madaleno, a Democrat who lives in Kensington, is reportedly thinking of challenging Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, in the 2018 elections, according to the Baltimore Sun.
